Kevin Schwantz, in statements according to GPOne, talked about the possibility of Suzuki joining MotoGP again after the new regulations are finalized in 2027.
The former rider has maintained his relationship with the Japanese brand over the years and now commented on this possibility.
– I don’t know, the new rules will change in 2027 and Suzuki has some time to think about it. Maybe they will consider that with these rules they can return and be competitive. In the end, it’s all a matter of costs, it’s a very difficult and expensive category. There are so many teams, so many components, so many races, so much equipment. Maybe the restrictions will help Suzuki assess their return, but at the moment, I haven’t heard anything about it.
Schwantz is in favor of the new regulations and added: ‘Yes, I think the riders will be more important with the new rules, with the reduction in displacement, in speed. If we look at what happened in Le Mans during free practice, they were very fast, over 300 km/h. I also think it’s a change that will help the riders. I also think it’s a change that will help those who are young, because nowadays there are so many things to do when you’re on the bike, you have to think a lot. Maybe these changes will highlight who the really fast riders are compared to the importance of the bikes as they are currently.’
