Enea Bastianini started the MotoGP season with fifth place in the Qatar GP – having been sixth in the Sprint race. Results below the potential of Ducati, so the rider doesn’t leave Losail entirely satisfied.
The Italian told the press: ‘For me, it wasn’t anything special, because at the beginning I tried to be a bit slower to be much faster towards the end of the race. But it wasn’t the right choice, because in the end the drop was smaller compared to Saturday. It would be better to try to do the maximum from the start and I’m not happy with this. But overall, this fifth place can be a good starting point. But my goal was to do something better‘.
Questioned about whether he was able to improve the balance of the bike after the Sprint race, Bastianini acknowledged that the direction taken was not ideal: ‘Maybe we worked in a direction, but it wasn’t the right one because the problem was practically the same. We have to see why during testing I was much faster in the race simulation compared to Sunday’s race. The conditions were also different, but I think now I have a lot of data to see and analyze for the next round. I think I can be half satisfied’.
