On Sunday, April 7, the Shuttleworth Collection auction took place, where Iconic Auctioneers put up for sale 170 very valuable pieces.
It was surprising that the two highlights, namely Capirossi’s 2003 Ducati Desmosedici (2nd in the Constructors’ World Championship) and the Desmosedici GP7 with which Stoner became world champion in 2007 (the first victory in the riders’ championship for the Bolognese manufacturer), were not sold.
Expectations were that they could fetch 350,000 to 450,000 euros, but it all ended there.
The GP3 Desmosedici was the first competition motorcycle of the Bolognese manufacturer to depart from the brand’s typical two-cylinder configuration and adopt a four-cylinder V, while maintaining the desmodromic distribution system.
Capirossi finished third in the Japanese GP after his first race, securing Ducati’s first victory at the Catalunya Grand Prix. Along with teammate Troy Bayliss, they achieved nine podiums and one win.
Casey Stoner signed with Ducati in 2007, after making his MotoGP debut with Honda LCR, sharing the box with Loris Capirossi. The result: ten wins and a MotoGP World Championship title won in Motegi.
