Every year MotoGP bikes seem to be getting better and faster, and according to Álex Márquez, his bike – Ducati Desmosedici GP23 – does indeed have ‘more potential’ compared to the bike he had last year, the GP22 version. The Gresini Racing rider is still adapting to the new version, which requires more work to extract so much power, he believes.
#73 also recalled, quoted in Motosan and in words to Motorsport, that it takes longer to get used to the ‘new’ bike, and even gave feedback from the other two riders who are in the same position: ‘Honestly, it’s a matter of getting used to it. I think the three of us [Bezzecchi, Di Giannantonio, and him] were very used to the 2022, which was a bike that, at the beginning, gave us a lot of confidence, gave us a lot of feedback and was easy to find the limit’.
Still, he believes that the current model he rides has more potential, but also requires more work to perform at its best: ‘I’ve been saying it since day one, the bike we use this season seems to have more potential than last year’s, but we have to work on it and fine-tune it more’.
And this year he has already been on the podium, with Bezzecchi (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team): ‘On Sunday, Bezzecchi had a great race, being very consistent, and I think all of us, coming from the GP22, are getting more into the rhythm of this bike’.
