With the MotoGP Australian Grand Prix sprint race canceled, the riders missed a chance to score points, but for Marco Bezzecchi the decision was a relief – allowing him to ride less and rest more as he continues to recover from a recent collarbone fracture.
The Italian admitted that the altered and shortened weekend was better for his physical condition: ‘I’m very sorry to say this, but for me it was a stroke of luck. It’s a shame because I love this track, I love the people here, and it’s true that they wanted to have a good show. But for my physical condition, it’s much better. Riding on a wet track is already less strain, but not riding is even less strain. I expected to suffer less here, but I suffered a lot. So, having one more day to recover is good for me‘.
Questioned about whether he has been feeling daily improvements in his physical condition, Bezzecchi confirmed, although he points out that he still has pain: ‘I have to say that the bone is improving day by day. I have much less pain compared to Indonesia – in Indonesia it was very painful. When I was pushing with my arm, I felt the bone causing me pain. Now the bone is better, but the fatigue I had during the weekend in Indonesia and here is causing me some problems. Also, the cold was tough here because I had constant pain all day, with the same intensity, always, with the cold. It was tough, but now we are going to a very hot place, which is better for me‘.
