The Águeda Action Club – ACTIB has a new direction

The Agueda Action Club – ACTIB went to elections on October 30, electing the new social bodies for the next biennium. The elected list is headed by Tiago Silva, who was in fact at the origin of the club in 2015 where he remained until 2018, being one of the main responsible for the emergence of the association and the return of the Motocross World Championship to our country, after 4 years of absence. The list also includes Américo Tomás as treasurer, Nuno Amaral as secretary and Marco Pereira and Pedro Santiago as members of the board. By his side is Ricardo Cruz, as Vice-President for the administrative area, also with a history in the club, supporting it since its inception, both through active participation in its activities and through sponsorship support year after year. The trio leading the list is completed by André Caetano, as vice-president for the sports area, transitioning from the previous board, where he already held the position of race director of the MXGP of Portugal. The list also includes Américo Tomás as treasurer, Nuno Amaral as secretary and Marco Pereira and Pedro Santiago as members of the board, all with a history in the club. The Assembly and Fiscal Council are also composed of several notable members who have long been involved in the dynamism of motocross in Portugal, namely: the assembly composed of president Filipe Almeida, vice-president José Brenha, first secretary Angelino Ferreira and second secretary Joaquim Carvalho, the fiscal council composed of president Jorge Silva, vice-president Miguel Silva and reporter Júlio Dinis. The words of the now president:

“I wanted to leave a word of thanks to all the people who agreed to be part of the newly elected list, allowing us to continue the work that has been developed and has taken the name of the city of Águeda and Portugal around the world, through sports and the unique amateur professionalism of the Motocross World Championship, year after year. I know, from experience, that it is always at our own expense and with many personal and professional concessions that we dedicate ourselves to these causes.”

He also adds that, “I return to the club at a difficult time, where it is necessary to attract new people and promote a team renewal. This, at a time when there is already a commitment to organize the 2024 Motocross World Championship, under very unfavorable conditions. In fact, while we see the costs of bringing and hosting the event increasing, there is already a substantial reduction in state support announced, crucial for the sustainability of the event. To this, we add an unfavorable economic situation that can harm us both through ticket sales, due to consumers’ lower purchasing power, and through the acquisition of private support, also essential for the success of the event.”

He also added that the next term will be guided by a spirit of mission and based on two clear policies: maximum budget containment and exponential growth of revenue seeking alternative sources of income. With the help of everyone and a lot of dedication, we hope to see the support of our longtime partner, CM Águeda, strengthened. We will also make efforts with the central government, both in sports and tourism, to try to review the current situation. We also hope to continue to earn the trust of the business community in the region and beyond, those who have been with us from the beginning, and attracting new companies that bring value, credibility, and visibility. A renegotiation process will also be carried out with the main partners and service providers, in order to optimize the associated costs, especially related to the MXGP of Portugal.

As the club is not only about the Motocross World Championship, we will continue to promote and enhance other sports activities and modalities that are part of the club’s DNA and aligned with the municipality’s strategy.
