In 2023, MotoGP introduced a minimum front tire pressure limit, violations of which are subject to penalties. In the upcoming season, adjustments may be made, but it is seen as a transitional year before tires more suitable for pressure and temperature variations are introduced.
MotoGP’s exclusive tire supplier, Michelin, acknowledges that there are fluctuations in temperature values that can complicate the task – the defined pressure value is with the tire hot, as it could have different reactions when cold. This was the explanation given by Michelin’s director, Piero Taramasso.
The Frenchman anticipated that in 2025 the tires will be different: ‘The goal of the 2025 carcass is for it to work with lower pressure and be less sensitive to these temperature variations.’
Taramasso emphasized that in the next season, the situation can be improved with the tires that will be available and collective work: ‘Therefore, 2024 will be a transitional year, but by working on the regulations and together with the teams, we can take a small step forward to improve the situation. In addition, the compounds we will provide next year for the front wheel will tend to be stiffer. And the stiffer a compound is, the less sensitive it will be to pressure and temperature variations, even with demanding bikes for the front like the current bikes in the premier class.’
