Jorge Martín finished the Sprint race in the worst possible way for the championship standings. The Spanish rider crashed in turn 1 of the Mugello circuit while in third position and chasing Marc Márquez.
In the debrief, the Prima Pramac Racing rider talked about the incident in the Sprint race and the expectations for tomorrow’s race.
– No, I looked at the data, before I crashed, I braked a little earlier, a little less, trying not to crash and I crashed. So, I don’t like not understanding why I crashed. Even if I analyze the situation, the temperature was good, the pressure was good, but it seems to me that I was really on the limit on the front. We need to work because it seems like I used the front tire too much, after three laps I feel like the tire already had 20 laps. We need to improve the setup for tomorrow, because with this bike I can’t be competitive. We’ll see what happens. Even yesterday afternoon I had done 6.1 with very worn tires and at the end of the race I was at 6.4, at 100%. So, something went wrong for sure and, besides that, my feelings are not fantastic. So, I don’t know, there’s something we have to solve for tomorrow, because it was very difficult to take corners. I saw a big difference between Pecco and Marc on the track. The good thing is that we have the data, we have the information and we will try to be closer tomorrow.
He also added about the incident with Enea Bastianini and his first crash in a Sprint race: “With Enea, he was very aggressive on the first lap and then went wide at turn one, and I took my normal line to close the gap, and yes, I felt the contact. I didn’t know if he had crashed or not, because I didn’t see him, but later on TV I saw on the big screen. But later I will have to go to race direction and I think they have already reviewed it, so I don’t think there should be any problem, but… Sooner or later, this moment would come and it was today. I prefer today, because I felt very bad, than a day when I feel great. So, let’s focus on tomorrow and then on the spring.”
