Jorge Martín’s exit from Pramac Racing at the end of 2024 has not been officially confirmed yet, but it is already a certainty. The rider does not want to spend another year in a satellite team – with his eyes set, first and foremost, on Ducati – and the team manager himself, Gino Borsoi, admitted that the Spanish rider’s time at Pramac is over.
According to the website Motosprint.it, Honda seems to view the hiring of Martín favorably. This year, they reached an agreement with Luca Marini for Marc Márquez’s spot, so they could end up with another rider from a Ducati satellite team. The money to convince the 2023 runner-up exists, but the main problem is the current lack of competitiveness of the bike.
The same issue arises with another speculated option – Yamaha. The manufacturer from Iwata continues to struggle to be competitive, but they want to return to good results and are willing to invest – in addition to the ongoing restructuring, they are also aiming for a new satellite team for 2025 – which could be VR46. Once again, the question would be convincing Martín of the potential of the bike, which is currently one of the least competitive in the field.
At the moment, Martín is one of the main movers in the market. The rider wants to move up to the official Ducati team. The manufacturer from Borgo Panigale is aware that the Spanish rider deserves the spot, but they have many other viable options. If he manages to make the leap, #89 will do so in place of Enea Bastianini, who would then be free on the market. And if Martín is not chosen, it could be Marc Márquez (Gresini). The future of the racing “ace” will be a key piece of the MotoGP rider market, so now we just have to wait for further developments.
