Sergio García finished Friday of the French GP of Moto2 with a record lap of the category at Le Mans. With that, he led this afternoon’s practice session.
In the first flying laps, three riders led the session: Fermín Aldeguer (Folladore SpeedUp/Boscoscuro), his teammate Alonso López, and García (MT Helmets-MSi/Boscoscuro), who then reinforced his position until being beaten by López.
The fastest in the morning FP1 stayed in the lead for over 20 minutes, until being surpassed by Joe Roberts (OnlyFans American Racing Team/Kalex). The first position was held for much less time by the championship leader.
About six minutes later, he was overtaken by Manuel González (QJMotor Gresini/Kalex). But, with five minutes to go, García ended up setting the best lap in 1m35.473s – a new category record at the circuit.
López still got close, finishing just 0.076s behind, followed by Aldeguer and González. Roberts closed the top five 0.310s off the top. Jorge Navarro was called in to replace the injured Álex Escrig at Klint Forward at the last minute, but did not ride in this practice session.
