The second Moto2 practice session of the Catalunya GP took place this morning and was highly competitive: Sergio García led with a new record lap, but the top three ended up separated by less than a tenth of a second.
After the initial flying laps, Joe Roberts (OnlyFans American Racing Team/Kalex) was in the lead, but was soon surpassed by Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS/Kalex).
Manuel González (QJMotor Gresini/Kalex), Ai Ogura (MT Helmets-MSi/Boscoscuro), and Daniel Muñoz also took turns leading in the first ten minutes. The Spanish rider from Pertamina Mandalika GAS UP held the top spot for over ten minutes.
He was eventually overtaken by García (MT Helmets-MSi/Boscoscuro), who set a new record with a time of 1m41.917s after 20 minutes. This lap remained unbeaten until the end. Roberts was only 0.040s behind, while Jake Dixon (CFMoto Inde Aspar/Kalex) was third, 0.076s off the pace.
Somkiat Chantra (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia/Kalex) and González rounded out the top five, more than three tenths behind the leaders. In the combined standings, Arbolino finished 14th, securing the final direct spot in the second qualifying session with a 0.161s advantage over Arón Canet (Fantic Racing/Kalex) in 15th.
The only rider who did not improve compared to yesterday was Jorge Navarro (Klint Forward). Despite setting a new lap record in yesterday’s first practice, it was not enough to place him higher than 16th in the combined table.
