Sergio García will start from pole position in the Catalunya GP of Moto2. The MT Helmets-MSi rider decided Q2 in his favor on the very first lap, setting a new category record at the Barcelona circuit.
For most of Q1, the lead belonged to Arón Canet (Fantic Racing/Kalex). Also in qualifying positions after the initial outings were Celestino Vietti (Red Bull KTM Ajo/Kalex), Senna Agius, and Darryn Binder (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP/Kalex).
In the final minute, Agius took the lead from Canet, being 0.274s faster. Vietti finished third and Binder fourth, also securing qualification for Q2. Marcos Ramírez (OnlyFans American Racing Team/Kalex), in fifth, missed that goal by just 0.026s.
Q2 arrived, and the pole position was a battle that was decided early on. With his first flying lap, García set a new record in Barcelona – 1m41.894s – to put himself out of reach and secure pole position.
At the end, Fermín Aldeguer (MB Conveyors SpeedUp/Boscoscuro) improved but settled for second, 0.240s behind. Vietti closed the first row of the grid in third, ahead of Canet, while Albert Arena (QJMotor Gresini/Kalex) was fifth.
