Francesco Bagnaia finished the first day of training in 2nd place. The Italian rider wants to bounce back from the crash suffered at the Indian GP and recover the points lost to Jorge Martín.
When asked how the first day went, Bagnaia replied: ‘I’m happy, I haven’t been in the top 5 in FP1 for a long time and then to do these lap times in FP2 was good, my feeling on the bike improved, I finally feel good in braking and I can now be more relieved after two weekends with a lot of difficulties in braking and today we managed to take a step forward’.
Francesco Bagnaia talked about the cause of the braking problems that have been affecting the Italian rider since the Misano GP.
– ‘It wasn’t a problem, but it was something different because the bike reacted differently. I didn’t have control when sliding and it slid completely differently when braking. With the new setup, I felt better, I was very strong on the brakes, sliding the way I wanted and I felt myself improving from lap to lap. The setup was identical to Austria, but it’s not the same, because we were using different tires and the grip here is different. The feeling when braking is very different, but we wanted to have the best feeling when braking again and that’s what we worked on all morning. I felt much better and I am very happy.’
