Senna Agius was the fastest in the first qualifying of the Moto2 Qatar GP. This secured him a spot in Q2 in Lusail, along with Celestino Vietti, Diogo Moreira, and Filip Salac.

After the first flying laps, Salac (Elf Marc VDS/Boscoscuro) was in the lead, with Jorge Navarro (Klint Forward) in second, Álex Escrig (Klint Forward) in third, and Ayumu Sasaki (RW-Idrofoglia Racing GP/Kalex) in fourth. Iván Ortola (QJMotor-Frinsa-MSi/Boscoscuro) was in fourth, meaning he was outside the qualifying zone at this stage.

But shortly after, the standings changed completely. Moreira (Italtrans Racing Team/Kalex) moved to the front, with Vietti (Team HDR Heidrun/Boscoscuro) in second. Salac didn’t improve and dropped to third, while Escrig moved to fourth.

As usual, the riders stopped in the pits halfway through the session to prepare for the decisive part of the session. Upon returning to the track, Salac improved to take the first spot, but was quickly overtaken by Agius (Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP/Kalex).

These improvements pushed Escrig out of the qualifying zone. By the end, no changes occurred in the top four, with Agius leading by 0.067s ahead of Salac. Moreira was third, and Vietti also secured a spot in Q2 with the fourth-fastest time, 0.092s faster than the fifth-placed Escrig.
