Romain Febvre strengthened his lead in the MXGP Motocross World Championship with a return to winning ways at the MXGP of Spain this Sunday in Lugo – marking his second overall victory of the season.

In the first race, the French Kawasaki rider led from the start. During the opening laps, he came under pressure from Jeremy Seewer (Aruba.it Ducati), but a mistake on lap three cost the Swiss rider several positions.

From then on, Maxime Renaux (Monster Energy Yamaha) was Febvre’s main chaser, with the gap exceeding eight seconds at one point. In the end, however, Febvre crossed the line 4.151s ahead of Renaux. Rúben Fernández (Honda HRC) finished third, also taking advantage of Seewer’s mistake to climb into third on lap three.

The second race began with a holeshot from Febvre, but he made a mistake on the opening lap, allowing Lucas Coenen (Red Bull KTM) to take the lead – which he never gave up.

Coenen maintained a clear lead over Calvin Vlaanderen (Monster Energy Yamaha), ultimately winning the race with a 12.347s margin over… Febvre, who in the final minutes completed his comeback with an overtake on Vlaanderen, pushing the Dutch rider down to third.

In the final standings for the MXGP of Spain, Febvre took the overall win with 47 points, four more than Coenen. Fernández completed the podium with 38 points, with Renaux finishing fourth, just four points off the top three.
