Jorge Lorenzo spoke on the Podcast “The Wild Project” about his ascent to the premier class and how Yamaha fit him like a “glove.”
The former Spanish rider and DAZN commentator talked about his debut in MotoGP and the rivalry with Valentino Rossi.
– I was very impertinent, very “conceited.” I thought I was going to conquer the world. That character was real, but sometimes I forced it and wanted it to look that way. I countered my shyness with that arrogance, but the problem was that in MotoGP there was a guy named Valentino Rossi. He was the Michael Jordan of MotoGP. He was also the undisputed best rider on the Yamaha team.
He also added about Rossi: ‘Rossi didn’t want a fast teammate on the team, but at that time he was talking about going to F1, so Yamaha prepared in case he left and hired me. And what did he do? He put up a wall in the box. In addition, he demanded that I race with Bridgestone and me with Michelin. Even so, I got pole positions and won races. Everything coincided and Rossi didn’t understand anything.’
