Surprise result in Practice of the Moto3 British GP. Álvaro Carpe was the fastest, setting a new category lap record at Silverstone.
David Almansa (Leopard Racing/Honda) spent the most time in the lead, dominating the first 24 minutes. Then, José Antonio Rueda (Red Bull KTM Ajo) took over at the top, only to be beaten by Joel Kelso (LevelUp-MTA/KTM).
The Australian was soon overtaken by Almansa again. But the best came later, when Carpe (Red Bull KTM Ajo) stopped the clock at 2m09.104s — a new circuit record that put the Spaniard 0.240s ahead of Almansa.
Scott Ogden (CIP Green Power/KTM) moved up to third at around the same time, followed by Kelso and Luca Lunetta (SIC58 Squadra Corse/Honda) to complete the top five ahead of Rueda.
This session determined the 14 riders who advance directly to the second phase of qualifying. The final one to secure a spot was Máximo Quiles (CFMOTO Valresa Aspar/KTM), who edged out Valentín Perrone (Red Bull KTM Tech3) by just 0.037s to take 14th.
