Romain Febvre secured his first victory of the MXGP World Championship season this Sunday – emerging as the strongest at the MXGP of Sardinia in Riola Sardo.

Jeremy Seewer (Aruba.it Ducati) took the holeshot in the first race, but it was quickly undone by an immediate attack from Coenen (Red Bull KTM). The Belgian held the lead until the end, while the Swiss rider dropped down the order and eventually finished only 15th.

Kevin Horgmo (Team Honda Motoblouz) was Coenen’s main challenger early on, but for most of the race, it was the Fantic rider who put the most pressure on the leader. In the end, Coenen won with a 4.078s margin over Glenn Coldenhoff, followed by Andrea Bonacorsi. Febvre (Kawasaki) took third, and Tim Gajser (Honda HRC) crossed the line in fifth.

In race two, the returning Jeffrey Herlings (Red Bull KTM) took the lead on the opening lap, after another holeshot by Seewer. The Dutchman led for the first three laps before being overtaken by Isak Gifting (JK Racing Yamaha). The Swede stayed on top for just two laps before being passed by Febvre.

The French Kawasaki rider took the lead and never gave it up, but faced a fierce battle to the finish with Tim Gajser (Honda HRC). The two crossed the line just 0.613s apart. Coldenhoff finished third, unable to match their pace, trailing by 43.241s. Calvin Vlaanderen (Monster Energy Yamaha) came fourth, while Bonacorsi rounded out the top five.

In the overall standings of the MXGP of Sardinia, Febvre was the big winner with 43 points – just one more than Coldenhoff. The podium was completed by Gajser with 38 points. Bonacorsi took fourth with 36 points, and Horgmo completed the top five with 27 points.
