The unique race of the FIM JuniorGP World Championship took place this Sunday at Estoril, with Rico Salmela taking the victory. It was a very different round from the first one in Misano last April, where Jesús Rios had dominated.
Cormac Buchanan (AGR Team/KTM) secured the pole position and led for half of the race, until he was overtaken by Salmela (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP Junior Team) on the sixth of the ten laps completed.
In a wet track due to rain, the Finnish rider took advantage of the lead he obtained and managed to create a gap, winning with a 2.538s advantage over Marcos Uriarte (CFMoto Aspar Junior Team).
The Spanish rider engaged in an interesting battle for the second position, coming out on top against Buchanan. Alessandro Morosi (CFMoto Aspar Junior Team) and Danial Shahril (Asia Talent Team/Honda) completed the top five.
After two rounds, Rios (MRE Talent/KTM) remains in the lead of the championship, now with a four-point advantage over Uriarte. Morosi is third, eight points behind the top.
