Francesco Bagnaia has already renewed with Ducati in MotoGP until 2026, with the question remaining of who will be his teammate. Enea Bastianini currently holds the position, but his contract is coming to an end. He is second in the World Championship behind… Jorge Martín (Pramac/Ducati), who is another strong candidate for the spot. Ricard Jové believes the decision will be made in less than two months.
In the Dura la Vita podcast, the expert stated: ‘Who is leading the championship? Martín. Who is in second place? Bastianini. Who is fighting for the official spot? Both of them. So, this is a way of showing “here I am”, and it’s nice because we know that by the time we get to Mugello, the spots will be decided.’
Jové then explained why he believes the question of the Ducati seat will be decided by the Italian GP at the beginning of June:
– The uncertainties have already been resolved. The world champion has renewed, Fabio [Quartararo] has also done so, and the key that remains is Ducati’s. But I think, and common sense tells me that within the structure they have at Ducati for hiring, they have to take it easy and try to make it based on meritocracy so that it is fair. They have to do it soon, because it is clear that Jorge Martín has made moves and has cards up his sleeve. I think he will stay, and they will hire him in red [the official team].
The Spanish commentator excludes Marc Márquez from the equation, currently at Gresini: ‘For me, Marc is not part of this game, because I see him somewhere else.’
