The Chinese brand Kove wrote a historic page in world motorcycling this weekend at the Algarve International Circuit in Portimão. The Kove 321 RR-S, ridden by Spaniard Beñat Fernández, conquered an important victory in the second race of the World Supersport 300 Championship (WSSP300), surprising the paddock and demonstrating the growing competitiveness of Asian manufacturers.

In a category where Japanese manufacturers are especially strong, this time it was a Chinese brand that triumphed in WSSP300, beating Yamaha, Kawasaki, and KTM. The race, contested under perfect conditions on the Algarve track, saw Fernández take full advantage of his machine’s potential to overcome opponents with more experience and tradition in international competitions.

A motorcycle with competitive specifications

The Kove 321 RR-S that conquered Portimão is equipped with a 320cc inline twin-cylinder engine, liquid-cooled, capable of producing a maximum power of 30.5 kW at 11,000 rpm and torque of 29 N·m at 9,000 rpm. With a curb weight of 151 kg, the small Chinese sports bike can reach maximum speeds close to 190 km/h.

The bike’s chassis includes fully adjustable inverted front suspension and rear suspension with damping adjustment. The braking system features a 320 mm floating front disc with Brembo four-piston radial calipers and a 240 mm rear disc, complemented by ABS on both axles.

The motorcycle’s electronics also include Bosch EFI electronic injection, complete LED lighting, and a TFT instrument panel, features that place this bike on par with established competitors in the market.

The WSSP300 is known for its competitiveness, bringing together motorcycles such as the Yamaha YZF-R3, the Kawasaki Ninja 400, and the KTM RC 390 R. Kove’s entry into the category and its rapid rise to the top of the podium demonstrate the balance of technical regulations that allow motorcycles of different architectures to compete on equal terms.

This victory represents a significant milestone for Kove, a Chinese manufacturer that has been investing heavily in the development of small and medium-displacement sports motorcycles. The presence in the world championship and, especially, this victory in Portimão, give the brand a credibility that few Chinese manufacturers have managed to achieve so far in the sports motorcycle segment.
