Less than two weeks ago, Raúl Fernández had a dramatic fall on the first day of MotoGP testing in Sepang. The details of his injuries have now been revealed: he suffered three fractures, which forced him to miss the rest of the tests. He will now return in Losail and does not fail to acknowledge the work of the championship’s medical team.
The Spanish Trackhouse Racing driver commented: ‘I feel very, very lucky after the big fall I had in Sepang. The doctor said I have three different fractures. It’s not funny‘.
Fernández then detailed the injuries suffered, as well as ensuring that he is fit to safely ride in the Losail tests: ‘I have two fractures in my pelvis, one in my hip. Honestly, I feel more or less fine. Another thing is that I had a CT scan before taking the plane to come here and we saw that it is safe for me and for everyone. That is the first thing. If they saw that it is not safe or that I can break more if I fall, surely I would not be here. But we saw that it is safe, for sure, for me and for others. But that is clear, if it wasn’t safe, I wouldn’t be here. Tomorrow I also have to do the control exam. Anyway, I did it in Madrid with the same doctor, he told me that I am fit. I have to do it again here, but if I took the plane and moved my whole team, it’s because I can. That is clear‘.
The #25 also praised the MotoGP doctors, after the doubts that arose during the change from the Mobile Clinic to Quirónprevención: ‘I feel that MotoGP sometimes does a fantastic job. What they did with the Clinic, everyone was very confused when they said we wouldn’t have the Clinic and changed after many years and Quirón came in with the whole team. It was fantastic; I think all the riders are very happy with them. In my case, I have no words to dedicate to them, especially Jaime [Benito] and Nacho [Gallego], the physiotherapist and the doctor. The team they have is fantastic’.
Then, Fernández also stated: ‘The work they did is fantastic. I feel very good because honestly the accident was less than two weeks ago and to be honest I can walk, I can more or less be on the bike, so I feel that the recovery is very fast. Normal people need a minimum of four or five weeks to be here, and in less than two I will be riding a MotoGP bike. It’s not easy. I have to thank them’.
