The Qatar GP may have been a nightmare for Jorge Martín, but the Prima Pramac had plenty of reasons to celebrate. For the first time in history, a satellite team has been crowned the overall team champion in MotoGP.
With 620 points accumulated, Pramac has 89 more points than Ducati, with 66 still to be awarded at the Valencia GP. In third place is another satellite team, the Mooney VR46 Racing Team, 11 points behind Ducati.
Since the MotoGP era began in 2002, the best an independent team had done was to be the runner-up: a feat achieved in 2003 by Pons, the following year by Gresini, and in 2020 by the current CryptoDATA RNF MotoGP Team.
