António Maio was the highlight among the Portuguese army in the Dakar, in a Stage that lasted 48 hours, intended for a (extensive) marathon round.
Closing the top 20 was António Maio (Drag’on Rally Team/Yamaha), completing the 835km of the day (209 liaison, and 626 special) in 9h9m39s, a difference of more than 1h from the winners. Mário Patrão (Crédito Agrícola mariopatrao.com/Honda) crossed the finish line about 13 minutes later, in 27th place, with Bruno Santos (XRaids Experience/Husqvarna) closing the “podium” among the Portuguese, already close to the 10-hour mark of the stage.
Rui Gonçalves (Sherco Rally Factory), who has been the biggest highlight so far in general, had a more complicated day and finished 80th, with Alexandre Azinhais (Club Aventura Touareg/KTM).
