The Autódromo Internacional do Algarve is hosting several private training sessions for teams that will participate in the next edition of the Superbike World Championship, which is scheduled to start at the end of February at the historic Phillip Island circuit in Australia.
However, in addition to the WSBK stars, some renowned names from other two-wheeled categories are in the Algarve. The most prominent cases are those of Marc Márquez, who is in the Algarve riding a Ducati Panigale V4 S, as reported by the newspaper Marca.
The experienced rider is accompanied by his younger brother Álex, who will form the duo for Gresini Racing in the upcoming season and will be riding a Desmosedici GP23.
Valentino Rossi is also in Portugal. The former rider is testing the Yamaha R1 that was presented to him in 2021.
According to the same source, several riders who passed through the academy of ‘Il Dottore’, such as Pecco Bagnaia, Marco Bezzecchi, Luca Marini, and Franco Morbidelli, are also conducting tests in Portimão.
Rossi has won seven titles in the premier class, while Marc Márquez has six MotoGP championships to his name. The Portuguese Grand Prix will be the second race in the Moto3, Moto2, and MotoGP championships and will take place at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve on March 22, 23, and 24.
