Top management at Ducati have accepted the concessions given to rivals in MotoGP, but apparently this is not the way to go, at least for Michele Pirro. The Italian manufacturer’s test rider sees this situation as a penalty for the company, even considering it an ‘attack’.
#51, a key player in the development of the Desmosedici, spoke about the idea of granting concessions to Ducati’s competition, in words to GPOne: ‘Punishing those who have worked better and who have developed a package over the past few years, even as a well-functioning test team, I don’t think it’s the best thing to do’.
This situation also prevents him from making more appearances in GPs, as he sees an advantage for his opponents in the situation already implemented: ‘But, at this moment, considering the points, I will be forced to give up wild cards, at least during the first part of the year. Of course, having more circuits, tires, and engines to test can work, but you also need to have a working method. But it is certainly a good advantage for the rivals’.
For Pirro, this decision constitutes an “attack” on the work done by the manufacturer: ‘I don’t understand this stubbornness towards us and me in particular. In my opinion, it’s worse, because if we have to replace someone, we are more prepared, so I don’t see this as a sensible attitude. I see this as an attack on Ducati, which has built a competitive test team in recent years’.
