MotoGP has had tires exclusively supplied by Michelin since 2016, but in the future it could be Pirelli taking on that role. This year, the manufacturer from Milan entered Moto2 and Moto3, and previously supplied the World Superbike Championship.
According to the MotoSprint website, Pirelli had some of its leaders at the Italian Grand Prix in Mugello: competition manager Giorgio Barbier, as well as management director Andrea Casaluci, technical director Pierangelo Misani, and motorcycle activities director Aldo Nicotera.
Since Pirelli supplies Moto2 and Moto3, their presence in the paddock is not strange or unusual, but even though it was their home round, having some of the top executives on site always stands out.
The current contract between Michelin and MotoGP expires at the end of 2026 and, as is known, the following year the new technical regulations come into effect. This visit by the executives to the paddock in Mugello doesn’t necessarily have a specific meaning, but it can be seen as an indicator that Pirelli may indeed be considering plans in MotoGP in the future.
