The safety commission is the meeting where, at all Grand Prix events, MotoGP riders come together to express and discuss safety issues and other concerns with the organization. Now, there is a perspective of creating a structure that represents the riders, with Aleix Espargaró being one of the most talked about on the subject.
Asked if this riders’ union could change the role of the safety commission, the Spanish rider denied: ‘No, no. It’s completely different. The safety commission is something very, very special that we have in this championship and there are not many places that have it. And it’s a completely different matter. The safety commission will remain the safety commission’.
As for the role of the future union, Espargaró said at this moment it is not clear: ‘Actually, the union, at this moment, I am not sure for what specific things it is. The first thing we need to do is the groundwork. It is for all of us to be together, to see on what points all the pilots agree, where we can go. In India, we saw that not everyone agreed on the first attempt. The first thing is for all of us to be together and then we will see where this takes us’.
