Pedro Acosta has been the biggest surprise this year in MotoGP, especially considering that this is his first year in the category, and it has not only been his performance on the track that has impressed.
On several occasions, the young Spaniard has shown a very mature and lucid discourse, which is not very common in people his age – Acosta will turn 20 on May 25 – and even though he often speaks almost without a filter, and says without hesitation what is on his mind, the truth is that he demonstrates maturity and a desire to grow, as was seen again this MotoGP weekend in Austin.
In addition to his good performances on the track, where he ended up being the best rider on the KTM RC16, as was the case in Q2, the Sprint, or the long Sunday race, that is not “just” his wish, as he explained at the end of Saturday, where he finished fourth in the Sprint:
– I don’t think about that. We have to think that we have three more bikes ahead of us. I don’t want to be there [behind the opponents], the brand and the manufacturer don’t want that either, and we have to work on that.
On that same day, #31 was also asked if only podiums and victories would be “acceptable,” with him responding clearly and once again showing his ambition: ‘We want more, all of us who are competing want more, do you like to lose? Do you like to lose or not? Well…’
Coincidentally, Acosta is currently fourth in the championship and the best KTM with 54 points, with Brad Binder in sixth overall with 49 and Jack Miller in 10th with 22.
