Pedro Acosta confirmed his status as the fastest in Moto2 in Buriram. The championship leader also set the pace in the second practice session of the Thai GP in the intermediate category.
The second Moto2 session started with Marcos Ramírez (OnlyFans American Racing/Kalex) leading Acosta (Red Bull KTM Ajo/Kalex) in the early laps, with Manuel González (Correos Prepago Yamaha VR46 Master Camp Team/Kalex) in third place.
In the following laps, Ramírez was not dethroned, but he was chased by Fermín Aldeguer (Beta Tools SpeedUp/Boscoscuro). This pushed Acosta down to third place. The timesheet then stabilized for several minutes as the riders prepared for the GP.
Only in the final phase did the top positions in the time table see changes. About five minutes before the end, Arón Canet (Pons Wegow Los40/Kalex) reached third place and Aldeguer was just six thousandths behind the leader. Shortly after moving up to third, Canet suffered a low side in turn three.
It was Acosta who, three minutes from the end, dethroned Ramírez from the top of the time table, at a time when Somkiat Chantra (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia/Kalex) was also showing speed.
Until the checkered flag, no one was able to beat Acosta, who led by 0.014s ahead of Ramírez. Aldeguer was third and Chantra set the fourth fastest time, with Canet in fifth. Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS/Kalex), Acosta’s only rival in the title fight, finished ninth.
