The MotoGP takes place this weekend in the United States of America, a country where some of the great past riders come from. One of them is Kevin Schwantz, about whom the riders were asked at the press conference for the launch of the Americas GP – including Pedro Acosta.
The young rider argued that MotoGP needs more personalities like the former rider: ‘For me, we need more people like him. I’m not talking about riding, I’m not talking about competition. I think we lack this “DNA” in MotoGP and we need more people like him‘.
Acosta then shared a memory he has of Schwantz: ‘I remember one day going to Jerez – maybe I was 8 years old – to these MotoGP legends and… it was Ángel Nieto, Fonsi [Nieto], and these guys too, and he was the only one who spent four hours signing autographs for the fans. We need more people like him, because that’s the true “DNA” of MotoGP‘.
Asked what he thinks MotoGP riders should do today to be more like Schwantz, the rookie responded: ‘I don’t have a clear idea; I think no one can be like him, otherwise it would be easy. But I don’t have an idea; we need to be more natural, I think we need to be like before, for example ten years ago: have a personality like Casey [Stoner], like Dani [Pedrosa], not all in the same way. But that’s how it is, I won’t change anything‘.
