The Red Bull GasGas Tech3 had a tough season in MotoGP in 2023, with their main rider – Pol Espargaró – suffering a serious injury right in the first round. This greatly affected the course of the year, especially because out of nowhere rookie Augusto Fernández found himself in a leading position within the team on track.
This year, almost everything remained the same, including the structure. However, a small change had a revolutionary impact: the arrival of promising newcomer Pedro Acosta, who already has two podiums in six rounds and is making waves for his talent.
Tech3 owner Hervé Poncharal spoke to the site SPEEDWEEK.com about Acosta’s arrival: ‘The team, the way of working, communication, strategy, everything is the same, but we welcomed a young man who changed everything. No matter how unsatisfactory it was just a short time ago, now it’s positive. His speed is just one thing. His attitude and how he deals with mastering a completely different bike is something very special. And suddenly everyone is looking at us. The others from KTM as well, and in the best sense of the word. The atmosphere throughout the project is a decisive factor‘.
Regarding Acosta’s characterization, the Frenchman commented: ‘Pedro is open, self-confident, and he simply has the speed at the moment that can also help Augusto, Jack [Miller], and Brad [Binder]. Our advantage is: we, Mr. [Stefan] Pierer, Hubert Trunkenpolz, Pit Beirer, and also Heinz Kinigadner, have the same understanding and a common vision of MotoGP. It has nothing to do with whether Pedro rides for Tech3. I am pleased that we are deciding this together and that Pedro has a contract with such a strong factory‘.
