It was a MotoE race in Barcelona that was not suitable for the faint-hearted. Óscar Gutiérrez was the winner, with the top four separated by less than a second at the end.
One of the contenders for the win, Nicholas Spinelli (Tech3 E-Racing), crashed on the first lap. The Italian was aiming for his third consecutive victory here, but ended up suffering his second retirement of the season.
Eric Granado (LCR E-Team) started from pole position, but lost some positions and his teammate Mattia Casadei (LCR E-Team) led in the early laps, until being overtaken on the third lap. Kevin Zannoni (Openbank Aspar) and Héctor Garzó (Dynavolt Intact GP) also led the race.
On the fifth of the seven laps, Gutiérrez (Axxis-MSi) became the new leader and, until the end of the race, there was no other lap where he did not finish in front. However, the Spanish rider was under pressure until the end, with Granado finishing second just 0.131s behind.
The podium was completed by Zannoni, ahead of Garzó and Alessandro Zaccone (Tech3 E-Racing) who finished in the top five. This afternoon, there is the second race in Barcelona, in which Granado will once again start from pole position.
