The 2020 Spanish GP was the last one Marc Márquez started in perfect physical condition with Honda before the injury ordeal and the RC213V’s sharp loss of competitiveness. Now, he returns to Jerez as a factory Ducati rider.

In a press conference, the #93 was asked whether, compared to five years ago, he is better and stronger. The Spaniard responded:

– No. In 2020, my level was amazing in this Grand Prix. I mean, the feeling on that point, on physical condition, and all those things, was amazing. It’s true that, right now, I feel different – it’s not that I feel better or worse, I feel different. I feel like I’m fast, but it’s still difficult to understand where the limit is.

In 2020, Márquez already knew the Honda RC213V well, while now he is still discovering the Ducati Desmosedici GP25: ‘On that bike [Honda], after riding it for ten years, I understood exactly where the limits were, what points I needed to improve, to attack. This year, with this bike, I’m still discovering some areas that I introduced a bit in Qatar – trying to improve in right-hand corners. I will try to keep going here, because I think I can do a step there. Let’s see’.

The eight-time world champion concluded: ‘Now I’m different. Better or worse? I’m different, I will not say if I’m better or worse’.
