Impressive performance by David Alonso at the Moto3 Americas GP. The rider led the race in Austin from start to finish, always with a significant lead over his competitors, to celebrate his second triumph of the season.
Good start by David Alonso (CFMoto Valresa Aspar), who maintained the lead, while Daniel Holgado (Red Bull GasGas Tech3) finished second and Collin Veijer (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) in third. Filippo Farioli (SIC58 Squadra Corse/Honda) crashed right at the first corner, without physical consequences.
Still in the first lap, Matteo Bertelle (Rivacold Snipers Team/Honda) recovered to second place, but Holgado regained the position. Iván Ortolá (MT Helmets-MSi/KTM) also crashed, as a result of an error while trying to reach the top positions. The Spaniard collected Stefano Nepa (LevelUp-MTA/KTM), but both managed to continue the race, very far behind.
While there was a battle for second place, Alonso took advantage to distance himself in the lead and, by the second lap, he already had a lead of more than a second. The Colombian’s pace was unusually superior, and after three laps, he was already three seconds ahead of Holgado. Ángel Piqueras (Leopard Racing/Honda) had reached third place. Taiyo Furusato (Honda Team Asia) joined the fight for the podium, but with 11 laps to go, he crashed. Despite Alonso being isolated at the top, the battle for the other podium positions was lively, with position changes. Holgado, Veijer, Piqueras, Ryusei Yamanaka (MT Helmets-MSi/KTM), and Joel Kelso (BOE Motorsports/KTM) were the protagonists. Around halfway through the race, Alonso began to lose some of the advantage he had, which had been over four seconds. Kelso would eventually exit this battle after an incident, but Tatsuki Suzuki (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) joined the front group. In the last five laps, Alonso’s difficulties were visible, as he continued to lose a lot of advantage. On lap 11, Veijer fell when he was Alonso’s main pursuer and narrowly avoided being run over by rivals. The incident left Alonso calm again, with over four seconds of a lead ahead of Piqueras.Last year’s miracle winner has crashed! 😮

Incredibly everyone avoided him and inadvertently it’s taken the pressure off Alonso at the front! 😮#AmericasGP 🇺🇸 pic.twitter.com/gEmc9XM60v
The Spanish rookie was thus in a privileged position to debut on the Moto3 podium. Yamanaka was also chasing that result, but Holgado was also in the fight. On the last lap, Alonso was comfortably in the lead, with over six seconds of a lead. The focus of attention was on the battle for second place.
The victory went to Alonso, who crossed the finish line with a 5.163s advantage. Holgado secured second place right at the end, pushing Piqueras into third. Yamanaka and David Muñoz (BOE Motorsports/KTM) completed the top five.
