Nicholas Spinelli led the second practice session of the Catalunya MotoE Grand Prix, which was the fastest session of the day. The rider even set a new lap record at the Barcelona circuit.
In the early flying laps, the lead changed hands three times. Andrea Mantovani (Klint Forward) was the first to complete a timed lap, only to be surpassed by Spinelli (Tech3 E-Racing). Spinelli was then overtaken by Kevin Zannoni.
The Italian from Openbank Aspar held the lead for only a few seconds before being passed by Matteo Ferrari (Felo Gresini). On his second flying lap, Spinelli set a new record with a time of 1m48.190s.
Until the end, no one was able to dethrone Spinelli from the top spot. Eric Granado (LCR E-Team), who set the pace in the first practice, came closest at 0.111s. Mattia Casadei (LCR E-Team), the championship leader, finished in third at 0.129s, with Ferrari and Jordi Torres (Openbank Aspar) rounding out the top five.
Alessandro Zaccone (Tech3 E-Racing) finished sixth, Óscar Gutiérrez (Axxis-MSI) seventh, and Héctor Garzó (Dynavolt Intact GP) eighth, completing the group of riders directly advancing to the second qualifying session. Zannoni, in ninth place, missed out on this goal by 0.160s.
