As is known, in 2027 MotoGP will have a new technical regulation, which will result in significant differences in the bikes. There are no official details about the process or what the future rules might be, but there are some leaks of information.
According to the site SPEEDWEEK.com, there is a point in the discussions that is causing a lot of division among manufacturers. This concerns the freezing of development – that is, limiting or suspending the development of bikes at a certain point.
A similar situation will already occur in 2025 and 2026, as the agreement in principle for the new regulations assumed a halt in the development of bikes in the two preceding years. However, this is not to everyone’s liking.
Some see this measure as inadequate, including from a cost control perspective – and one of the points of the new rules is to contain budgets, which are currently substantial and have been growing with the race for aerodynamics.
If Aprilia, Ducati, and KTM are in favor of freezing homologation until the end of 2027, Honda and Yamaha disagree – which is understandable, given the current competitive situation the Japanese are going through. And, subsequently, Aprilia may have changed its position, considering it inevitable to develop bikes in 2025 and 2026.
