This year, Honda has shown significant progress in MotoGP, becoming a solid contender for the top ten after having one of the least competitive bikes in recent seasons.

The manufacturer is aiming to return to the successes it enjoyed up until 2019. One of the key hires was Romano Albesiano, who took on the role of technical director at the end of last year.

Neil Hodgson mentioned on TNT Sports that the Italian is crucial to Honda’s resurgence: ‘They’ve gone full circle now. They have made such a step. I would say [Albesiano] it’s 90%. Honda have been lost for years, and with Marc Márquez’

The former rider believes Albesiano will clearly guide the development path: ‘They brought Albesiano in from Aprilia, who knows exactly what [Aprilia] have done. He will say «don’t go down that road, do this. If you want feeling on the front, tweak this». Whatever he has said, has worked’.

After three rounds, Johann Zarco (Castrol Honda LCR) is Honda’s best rider in the standings, sitting in seventh place with 25 points – one more than Luca Marini (Honda HRC Castrol). Joan Mir (Honda HRC Castrol) has also secured a top-ten finish, despite retiring from two of the three main races.
