Even though he is widely recognized as a very talented rider, Andrea Iannone would have no chance of becoming MotoGP world champion, or at least that is the thesis that Neil Hodgson defends, refuting possible possibilities even if the Italian had not been banned.

The British, former rider admitted that Iannone was a very good rider but, since his peak had already passed, even though he had not been sanctioned in the doping case, he was not so strong as to have the ability to achieve a title in MotoGP, as he explained to TNT Sports: ‘People have said he would have been MotoGP champion? He was on a downwards curve in 2019, he finished 16th’.

Hodgson recalled that the rider still had the quality to be in MotoGP for another couple of years, but not to reach the title:

– He was past his best. He had an incredible career and would have stayed in MotoGP for another couple of years but let’s not kid ourselves that the ban prevented him from being MotoGP champion, that was never going to happen.

In seven seasons in MotoGP, the best Iannone did was finish fifth at the end of the season in 2015, then riding for Ducati.
