Honda may be starting to find a way back to a better competitive level or, at least, that’s the idea that comes from Johann Zarco’s words after the tests in Mugello, with the Frenchman even being surprised, as he confessed. At the same time, and looking at this Catalunya GP, the Frenchman hopes to have a good performance.
Talking about this upcoming GP in Barcelona, the LCR Honda rider started by expressing his feelings about this next race: ‘I’m happy to be here, it’s a good track for me because I’ve had very good results here before. This asphalt is very particular, the grip, and I hope that with others fighting a little more I can have some advantage and after the test we did in Mugello I think we will achieve some evolution in the aerodynamic package, the most difficult to achieve is this aero that was good in Mugello, in a week, prepare many fairings and get everything’.
In a way, he was surprised by the performance of the RC213V and hopes that it can help him this weekend: ‘It wasn’t planned to have such good results like these in Mugello, they did their best to take some steps here. They are still trying to prepare it for this Friday. Just the fact of riding in Mugello was great because, after Le Mans, it’s a much faster track and… wow… I feel like I was still getting used to the speed in my mind, feeling relaxed on the bike and that will also be useful here because it’s a fast track. I’m curious to see if this difference we have will be a big help in the Sprint and on Sunday’.
Next, he explained what the main differences were: ‘I felt the bike cornering better, that was my sensation and with all the data they analyzed after the test they can confirm it. It’s being positive and I think it’s something they can homologate and then see better for the rest of the season’.
And he concluded: ‘Let’s see if I can get this top 10. I want it and it would be good to achieve it here in Barcelona’.
