The main straight of the Mugello circuit is known for the high speeds reached – the record is held by Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM), who reached 366.1km/h last year. That is why the location is undergoing construction to become safer.
The authorities of the racetrack near Florence announced an increase in the run-off area, with the adjacent service road being shortened for that purpose. The run-off area is now 450 meters long. Mugello underwent other interventions as well: an asphalt area was created at the entrance of Arrabbiata 1, connecting the track to the safety line. In turns 3, 9, and 11, state-of-the-art barriers, approved by FIM and FIA, were installed.
Paolo Poli, director of the circuit, stated in a press release: ‘The safety of a track is not something static. On the contrary, it is a continuous challenge to find solutions to reduce the minimum risk that, although residual, still exists in the practice of motorsport. The continuous studies and significant investments we have made aim to further increase the already very high standards of Mugello, with the goal of allowing all drivers who participate (professionals and non-professionals) to express their passion in a facility that is always at the forefront of safety and is an international reference point‘.
