As a Ducati test rider, Michele Pirro reveals that Marc Márquez will be an asset in his move to Gresini Racing, one of the satellite teams of the Italian factory, and praised the level shown in the premier class.
‘I saw a calm and lucid Márquez who boosted the potential of our bike. He comes from many years facing difficulties, but I believe that this new challenge is a great opportunity for everyone,’ he began by stating in statements to GPOne quoted by Motosan.
‘The GP24 is simply an evolution and the positive factor is that there don’t seem to be any negative aspects. There is not even half a second of difference between the bikes, only small details, considering that the rider’s confidence will make the difference. Just look at what Di Giannantonio did at the end of last season, he didn’t have any improvements in the last races, he simply got on the bike and the sensations did the rest,’ he added.
Pirro, who is in Sepang, also recalled the tests that Marc Márquez carried out in mid-November last year in Valencia.
‘It is still too early to say anything. It must be taken into account that in Valencia he did not have the opportunity to choose because he did not know the bike. The technical aspect is not a priority for him at the moment, he has to have a bike that is from last year and about which we all have data. The most important thing for him is to get back on the bike and have fun. Surely there is a lot of excitement, but I can assure you that, having raced on the track in recent years, victories are not so obvious. Currently, MotoGP has reached a very high level and the proof of that is the distinct performances of Bastianini, Pecco, Bezz, Martín, etc. I hope that Márquez will be fighting for victory in every race, more than what he did last year, where maybe he did not have much conviction. Surely Marc will not start the season with a seconds advantage over everyone else because MotoGP has reached a really high level. And he is aware of that, he has already started studying the opponents and vice versa. In any case, I am glad that he can ride a Ducati’, he concluded.
