David Alonso will step up to the Moto2 World Championship next season with CFMOTO Aspar. After dominating Moto3 this season and setting new records on his way to the title, expectations about him are high.
In fact, there is even a possibility of him spending only one year in the intermediate category before moving up to MotoGP – if he were to win the championship as soon as 2025. However, such a rapid ascent is rare.
In Alonso’s view, spending more than one season in Moto2 would not be an issue. He even referenced Johann Zarco as an example, arguing that Moto2 is a strong platform for learning. The Colombian rider told Marca:
– It’s true that Moto2 is a category where, doing like Zarco – even winning, repeating, and staying on – isn’t a bad category to do that in, because it’s a bit more dependent on you in terms of pace. And it’s somewhat in the style of a good school for MotoGP in terms of riding technique; in other words, it doesn’t hold you back. So, it’s a good category where staying one year longer than planned is also not a problem.
