The Grand Prix Commission, composed of Mr. Carmelo Ezpeleta (Dorna, President), Jorge Viegas (FIM), Herve Poncharal (IRTA), and Biense Bierma (MSMA), assisted by Carlos Ezpeleta (Dorna), Mike Trimby (IRTA, Meeting Secretary), and Corrado Cecchinelli (Technology Director), in a meeting held in Misano on September 8, 2023, made the following decisions.
IMMEDIATE EFFECT: Definition of the end of a lap In very rare occasions, there are situations in which a rider separates from their machine and they cross the finish line separately. The following regulation has been approved to resolve this issue: In the event that the rider is not in contact with the machine, the arrival time is determined by the first part of the rider or machine to cross the finish line, whichever arrives last. In all cases, any infractions, including but not limited to track limits and advantage gained, will be taken into account to determine the validity of the lap. This includes cases where the machine and rider are separated, in which case both the machine and rider will be taken into account in determining the infractions.
Schedule change – MotoGP class warm-up session In response to a request from MotoGP class riders, the Sunday morning warm-up will start five minutes earlier, in order to provide more time between the session and the warm-up lap (this change had already been made for the San Marino GP by decision of the Race Direction). Evolution of Regulations and notifications with new means of communication (emails, applications, Sportity, etc.) To clarify the communication methods of the Race Direction, the Sporting Commissioners or the Officials of the meeting on disciplinary issues, it was agreed that communication to teams or riders could be done in writing, by email or by other electronic means.
EFFECTIVE SEASON 2024: Wild Card Entries Moto3 and Moto2 Classes To allow teams to make preparations for sending machines and support material, the deadline for approval of wild card applications has been changed to 90 days before an event outside Europe. For events in Europe, the deadline remains unchanged at 45 days before the event.
MotoGP Class The maximum number of wild card entries for the MotoGP class at an event has been increased from two to three. Currently, if there are more entries than available slots, the decision on which entries to accept is made by the Grand Prix Commission. In the future, the decision will be made according to a new protocol that takes into account the number of wild cards already allocated to a factory in the current season. In a situation where candidates have already received an equal number of wild card entries, the decision will be based on current standings and, at the beginning of the season, on the previous season’s standings in the Constructors’ Championship, with priority given to lower-ranked factories.
