Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP and Mitch Evans have jointly decided that the rider will miss the next round of the MXGP World Championship. The decision is based on an injury to one of the Australian’s wrists.
The confirmation of the rider’s absence can be read in the statement:
The MXGP of Turkey last week was tough for Mitch; he raced with pain in both motos as the irritation from an old wrist injury caused more and more discomfort to the point where he could no longer show his usual speed, but he managed to score points in the championship with a twelfth and a sixteenth place. Back in Belgium, the factory rider visited a specialist and underwent specific treatment to recover as quickly as possible, but he still can’t train on the bike and riding would only delay the healing process. With the GP of Italy scheduled for next weekend, both the team and the rider prefer to give time for the injury to fully heal; a decision will be made later regarding the last MXGP of the season in Great Britain. Antti Pyrhonen: ‘We are working closely with Mitch to find the best way for him to recover 100%. It is certainly a difficult decision to withdraw Mitch from Italy, but we are convinced it is the right decision; then we will see when is the best time to return to racing. We thank Mitch for his professional attitude and for making the correct decision in terms of his physical condition and ability to compete at the highest level.’
