Among the new rules for MotoGP in 2027 are a new 850cc engine and the requirement to use fully sustainable fuels. Two aspects that Miguel Oliveira has remarks on.
The Portuguese explained that he expected to keep the current displacement and sees sustainable fuels as a source of great expense considering what it entails:
– At least keeping 1,000cc. The fuel thing for me is also hard to understand, because 100% renewable energy is tough, it’s expensive the price per liter. Also we’d have some company certifying that for all the constructors. So there are some costs applied to that.
Regarding the engine itself, Oliveira believes it would be better to maintain the base of the current 1,000cc: ‘And also developing a completely new way of making an engine go with the 850cc. I think we have such a huge base and a good experience with the 1,000cc I think we could limit the costs much more applying some kind of different technology into the 1,000cc than going to 850cc. I’ll happy to ride one of them’.
