Among the new rules for MotoGP in 2027 are a new 850 cubic centimeter engine and the requirement to use entirely sustainable fuels. Two aspects that Miguel Oliveira has reservations about.
The Portuguese rider explained that he expected to keep the current engine size and sees sustainable fuels as a source of great expense considering what it entails:
– At least keep the 1,000cc. The issue of fuel is also difficult for me to understand, because 100% renewable energy is difficult, the price per liter is expensive. We would also have to have some company certifying that for all manufacturers. So, there are some costs associated with that.
As for the engine itself, Oliveira believes it would be better to keep the base of the current 1,000cc engines: ‘Developing a completely new way for the engine to be, with the 850cc. I think we have such a huge base and good experience with the 1,000cc that I believe we could limit costs much more by applying some different type of technology to the 1,000cc than by going to 850cc. I will be happy to ride one of them‘.
