Miguel Oliveira started the MotoGP Grand Prix of the Americas with the 17th fastest time in the first free practice session. It was a discreet start in Austin for the Portuguese rider from Trackhouse Racing, although he briefly made it into the top ten.
The first timed lap by the Almada driver was not very representative, as he stayed in 17th place. Then, improvements were noticeable, allowing him to get into the top ten. After three flying laps and about 12 minutes, Oliveira headed to the pits and dropped to 12th place.
It was a short stop in the garage, lasting less than five minutes, but enough for #88 to drop further down the table, out of the top 15. When he improved his time, he climbed to 13th. Despite another improvement in time, Oliveira returned to the pits with 16 minutes remaining when he was 16th in the standings.
In his final outing on track, “Falcão” managed to improve his time again, entering the 2m04s range. However, it was not enough to go beyond 17th place, 1.220s behind leader Maverick Viñales (Aprilia). As for the Noale manufacturer, only Aleix Espargaró (Aprilia) finished behind the Portuguese rider, whose teammate Raúl Fernández was 12th.
