Miguel Oliveira finished sixth in the second free practice of the Catalunya GP. However, the Trackhouse Racing driver did not improve his time compared to yesterday’s afternoon session, although it was not expected to happen in this session focused on finalizing preparations for qualifying and the races.
The #88’s session started with two used tires on the Aprilia RS-GP and 13th place after the first flying lap. Despite improving, he did not keep up with the pace in the following laps and dropped to 17th.
On the fourth lap, Oliveira entered the 1m39s to reach 12th. That was the position he was in when he entered the pits with 17 minutes remaining in the session.
About ten minutes later, “Falcão” returned to the track, now with a used medium tire in the front and a used soft tire in the rear. In the first lap of this sequence, he improved his time to move up to 11th and then to tenth.
The improvements continued to place him in sixth position. That’s where Oliveira ended up, 0.387s behind leader Aleix Espargaró (Aprilia) and as the second best Aprilia. Promising signs for this morning’s qualifying session.
