Miguel Oliveira once again failed to qualify directly for the second phase of qualifying at the Catalunya MotoGP. This Friday in Barcelona, the Trackhouse Racing man finished only 13th in the afternoon session.
In his first outing on track, #88 had two new medium tires on the Aprilia RS-GP, starting in seventh position. His second flying lap was canceled for cutting the track, dropping him to 16th.
When he improved on the next attempt, he climbed to 14th, entering the 1m40s, briefly reaching 11th. After fifteen minutes, Oliveira went to the pits, while sitting 15th on the timing board.
After about ten minutes, he started his second outing on track, using the previous medium tires. At that time, he was 17th, completing only two laps before returning to the garage. He put on a used medium tire in the front and a new soft one in the back to go back out on track, now in 18th.
In a challenging session, Oliveira continued to drop in the standings and, within the final ten minutes, he was only 20th, eventually improving to 13th. That was the position where he finished, 0.788s behind leader Aleix Espargaró (Aprilia).
